A recent report from the Lowy Institute Asia Power Index 2024 highlights the countries with the largest number of active military personnel. India leads the list with an impressive 3.09 million active personnel. Following closely behind is China with 2.53 million.
Outside of the top two, Russia holds the third position with 1.66 million, while North Korea and the United States round out the top five with 1.47 million and 1.32 million respectively. Interestingly, the list also includes several Southeast Asian nations. Indonesia ranks seventh with 694.7 thousand active military personnel, followed by Vietnam in ninth place with 490 thousand, and Thailand in tenth with 454.5 thousand. Pakistan and South Korea also feature prominently in the rankings. This data provides valuable insight into the military strengths of various nations around the globe.
